Brandon Weaver
intern counselor
Brandon is an intern counselor studying at Grand Canyon University under the supervision of Samuel Bryant. Brandon grew up commercial fishing in Alaska which taught him resiliency and how to stay positive through oppressive conditions. Brandon used these skills to earn a bachelors degree in Political Science from Boise State University and continued to work in manual labor through professions like railroading, residential painting, and warehouse management. He developed an intense respect and empathy for people of all walks of life and found a calling in mental health counseling. Brandon believes in treating all aspects of life with purpose and dignity and brings that same conviction into counseling. He believes in the therapeutic relationship as a component of healing which centers on recognizing the inherent dignity of the person through a warm empathetic approach.
Brandon’s Catholic faith informs how he sees the person. His therapeutic style incorporates the Thomistic view of man which recognizes the need to view the person as body and soul. He recognizes the worth spirituality brings to the therapeutic process and combines it with cognitive-behavioral and Adlerian methods. Brandon has served in marriage ministry for the past two years helping new couples prepare for marriage by enhancing communication techniques around topics such as problem solving, finances, and sexuality.
Brandon has been married to his wife for 10 years and has two children. When he is not studying or spending time with his family, he enjoys playing guitar, writing music, golfing, and reading.
